Research Activities

Research activities at CIRCE in the field of bioenergy covers a wide range of topics, such as:

  • Evaluation of Forestry and Agricultural Resources for Energy Uses

Determination of available bioenergy resources from the economic and the environmental point of view. Optimisation of pre-treatments related to the resources and energy use.

  • Combustion and co-firing of bioenergy

Facilities analysis and design (refurbishing and new plants). Design of pre-treatment systems, storage and feeding. Design of combustors and burners. Laboratory trials.

  • Projects

On-going projects in bioenergy include:
BIOMAX - "Maximum Bioenergy Use and Efficiency in Large-Scale Cofiring"
INTCON - "Intelligent Process Control System for Bioenergy Fuelled Industrial Power Plants"
