Ecole Des Mines de Paris has been a member of EUREC Agency since 1991.The Centre for Energy and Processes (CEP) is one of the 18 Research Centres of Ecole des Mines de Paris. It is composed of about 160 people distributed on three sites : Paris, Fontainebleau and Sophia Antipolis. Renewable Energy Education and Research is mainly carried out at Sophia Antipolis.
CEP has gained experience in energy teaching through their own Masters, such as the Master in Energy Engineering and Management, the International Master in Energy Systems Management (ALEF). The European Master in Renewable energy is taught separately from these other Masters.
Upon their arrival at Sophia Antipolis, students register with Ecole Des Mines as full time postgraduate students. They remain registered as Ecole Des Mines students throughout the full duration of the programme and their degree is awarded by Ecole Des Mines. This core provider requires the students to undertake a project group: all students are given a question on which they must work together throughout the first semester. In December, they present their proposed solutions. Students also enjoy a high level of interaction with the professors.

Accommodation

Since the European Master students will only be at Ecole Des Mines for five months, they are advised to look for accommodation well in advance. The price of a room in a shared house is typically between 500 and 550€/month.
Health Insurance
Students from the European Union must ask for the E-128 form that give them access to medical help and the social security. Students from countries outside the European Union or from those that do not have bi-lateral agreements with France must have a private insurance, as well as those that are not covered by the Social Security in their country.

Research Activities
Research activities at CEP in the field of Renewable Energies have focused essentially on the decentralized production of electricity through systems based on thermal and photovoltaic (PV) conversion of solar energy and wind energy. They are based on:
- the development and utilization of tools for the measurement and analysis of the performance of such systems;
- the elaboration of control strategies leading to operational optimization of hybrid wind/diesel and PV/diesel systems (cf. box);
- the development of tools for assisting in decision-making using GIS to ensure better integration of renewable energy systems in rural electrification programmes.
Other research activities outside renewable energies include: Thermal Comfort in Confined Areas, Energy and Materials, Energy Storage and conversion Processes, Plasma Process, Remote Sensing and Modeling.
