It has been a genuine pleasure to see how good work is recognized beyond the university boundaries. In the email I received from my supervisor it mentioned about 'really good projects' which at the time made me think twice, before applying. Before receiving the EUREC confirmation email, I have received another award for the 'best wind or tidal energy dissertation' (from DNV GL)which encouraged me to apply for EUREC award. The award is a great personal achievement and proof of good quality research. I am glad that EUREC recognized this and I can now use it as a proof for my professional potential. Before getting to Brussels, I was really looking forward to it. It was a nice, full day and such a great opportunity to network with professionals from all around the world, having a mutual aim of making the development greener.

When I received the e-mail about the prize of EUREC Awards, I was so happy, as I felt that my work was recognized by such a prestigious institution. I had worked so much on my thesis which made me sentimentally connected with it! Then when it was announced that the award ceremony was on 2nd of October, it was a second happiness for me as that day is my birthday. I could not have imagined for a better gift for my birthday! The award ceremony was fantastic, as I had the opportunity to present my work to people of many different nationalities, but with a common interest. Finally I would like to thank my supervisor, Professor Emmanuel Tatakis, and the PHD Candidate Charoula Zogogianni for their help and their motivation in that project. And of course I want to thank my family and my girlfriend Irida for their support all the time of my studies.

For my last year of engineering studies I decided to go to Cranfield University (UK) doing the MSc in Renewable Energy Technologies. By thesis dealed with energy for basic needs issues, focusing on Africa. After winning the prize of the Best Artefact at the Master Research Exhibition I decided to apply for the EUREC Award. I was keen on pursuing my studies and the European Master in Renewable Energy grabed my attention, that's how I learned about the EUREC Award. Giving the presentation in Brussels was a wonderful opportunity to meet other people interested in all kinds of renewable energies. I would like to thank mysupervisor Dr. Christopher Sansom - leader of "Global CSP Laboratory", the UK Centre for Concentrating Solar Thermal Manufacturing -and the welcome of EUREC people. The EUREC Award is an undeniable added-value on my CV, which shows once again the quality of the research. I hope this opportunity will allow the project to be continued and to be put into practice. In fact, this project is not only theoritical but is aimed to change people's daily lives.I am currently studying in Political Sciences at Sciences Po in International Energy and I hope to see other renewable projects. Thanks EUREC for the trailblazing initiative !! Do not hesitate to apply for the EUREC Award, this experience will undoubtedly be positive!!!

I was surprised and delighted to hear that my entering to the EUREC award had been successful. It was great to have the work rewarded not just with a good grade but with an accolade such as this which gave me real recognition of a project which I worked very hard on over the year. The award is a great personal achievement and hopefully its presence on my CV will help me in my search for a graduate job. It was great to present my project to students and professors outside my university yet with a wider interest in renewable energy. The award also gave me the chance to visit Brussels, a beautiful city,to learn about the work of EUREC and the financial stability to enjoy my final year at university to the max. Thank you EUREC!

It has been an honor for me to be one of the winners of EUREC awards. The development of my final degree project was absolutely not trivial for an engineering student. So this award is an acknowledgement of my work, and I am very grateful. Furthermore, to share and present the result of my project,"Public and free website providing real-time hourly solar irradiation data all over Europe" to people interested in this same sector, has been a very nice experience for me. Thank EUREC for everything!
Sylvia Gildemyn, Ghent University
After dedication almost a full year to my undergraduate project, I was happy to hear from my professors that several competitions were open for students. Sharing the experience acquired in the final year at university, with the chance of winning a price, was the main motivation. As I had worked in the field of renewable energy for a year, on anaerobic digestion of waste streams, I engaged in the EUREC Awards competition. I was quite surprised when I received the email from EUREC with the news I was one of the winners of the first EUREC Award. Giving the presentation in Brussels was a nice opportunity to meet other undergraduate students working on Renewable Energy. Although this is a very broad topic, we all share the same drive towards a more sustainable future. And of course, the money-price was a nice"extra”. The EUREC prize is now mentioned on my scientific CV, as awards are an important aspect to show the value and quality of research, even though the PhD research I’m involved in now is different (but still similar to) my undergraduate project.

There will become a day that we, each one of us, would be stones of the wall that stands between humanity and obliviation. Hydrocarbon resources drained, Airs hot, Seas uneasy, rains drowning, wisdom would be the only shield of man kind. EUREC is a step toward that wisdom, a banner for each small effort to be counted.

Europe is the global hub for renewable energy research and being felicitated by the European Renewable Energy Research Centers was the best that happened. I found it as a great opportunity to present our idea to the world, on which we were working since August 2012 and have made many more developments beyond the awards. We have already filed a patent on our research at the Indian Patent office.
EUREC Awards also gave me an opportunity to visit Belgium, which was my first trip outside India. It was a wonderful experience with the people of this beautiful country. Although a short stay of4 days, I enjoyed every bit of it, the best time being at the EUREC headquarters. The warm welcome and the interaction with people of different nationalities have given me memories which I will cherish forever.
EUREC has encouraged me and inspired me further to pursue research in renewable energy technologies and develop sustainable systems to make the world a better place.
First of all, when I received the notification of the EUREC AWARD in 2012 I felt really happy and also thanked to EUREC. The hard and constant work on the project during more than two years was rewarded. When we started our project, the OTEC (Ocean Therman Energy Convertion)Plantship was considered innovative and different to the projects that students usually do at University. We knew that we were going to find difficulties during the process. The EUREC AWARD was like the flower that appears after ahard winter. The EUREC ceremony was the best opportunity to explain to Europe our work and encourage other students to start their own projects. I was also surprised with the interest of student on the project and OTEC technology. Herein Madrid the communication of the EUREC AWARD was really well received. Me and my colleague were interviewed by the Rector of the University, who congratulated us for the award and was very interested on the OTEC Planship project. The University also take interest on the award and an article about the project was included in the magazine of the University and one radio in Madrid emitted the new. As you can seen, I was very happy. Now,my actual job involves subjects different to the OTEC Plantship but I keep thinking that maybe one day I will continue with the Project in more detail. I encourage all those people who are exited to develop their own projects, different from the rest because in the end it worth the effort.
