Teaching Methods
  • Module I: Generating Components
The module Generating Components wants to provide the students with the knowledge of the most relevant components of the existing hybrid systems technology and the related scientific basics.
  • Module II: Grids and Consumers
This module aims to explain the different possibilities for interconnection between the most relevant components of a hybrid system in relation to the demand.
  • Module III:System Planning
This module aims to convey an understanding of the complex relations between technical, economic, political, social and environmental aspects, needs and realities for small scale energy supply situations.
  • Module IV: Final Specialisation
The main objective of this module is to give the possibility to run a project self consistent in a small group.

Research Activities

The department of Efficient Energy Conversion (IEE-RE) coordinates the contact with EUREC and is responsible for the hybrid system specialisation course. The department focuses in research and education on renewable and rationale energy use. The main topic is energy supply systems without connection to an electricity grid for application in rural areas like mountanous regions and locations in developing countries. Such supply systems typically combine generation from renewable energy sources like solar (photovoltaic), wind, hydro and bio energy and are called hybrid systems. Other main topics of our department are energy savings in office buildings, industry and within conversion processes and the integration of higher renewable energy shares in the European electricity grid.
All these activities include the further development of energy management techniques.
