Lack of qualified employees in RE sector detected

As renewable energies sector keeps growing, green industries are noticing shortages of qualified employees hindering their development.

A recent landmark report has reviewed the emergency of a 'green economy'. It predicts that adaptation to climate change and emissions reduction schemes will create employment opportunities on a large scale.

ENEA for IDEAS's initiative

ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and the Environment is offering its facilites to researchers participating in the Specific Programme IDEAS of the Seventh Research Framework Programme of the European Commission. This programme aims to reinforce excellence, dynamism and creativity in Europe by supporting frontier research projects submitted by researchers from all over the world willing to settle down in a European Research centre.

In this context, ENEA encourages researchers worldwide to apply to IDEAS opting for its research facilities as hosting institution to carry out their own projects.

ENEA will provide the necessary support for the preparation and the submission of the projects to the European Commission. If the projects will be approved, ENEA will take care of the logistical and administrative support to assist the winning researchers in this new path.

“Green jobs” on the increase

As employment in the fossil fuel sector declines, more and more people are finding work in the renewable energy sector and related professions, with the number of 'green jobs' expected to swell considerably in the coming years, says a new study.  "Growing automation and corporate consolidation are already translating into steadily fewer jobs in the oil, natural gas, and coal industries - sometimes even in the face of expanding production," according to the latest 'Vital Signs Update' from the Worldwatch Institute, a Washington DC-based research institute focused on sustainability issues.

Meanwhile, "renewables are poised to tackle our energy crisis and create millions of new jobs worldwide," says Michael Renner, senior researcher at Worldwatch.
